If you work hard and have a basic knowledge of blog technology, it is possible to make a profit from your blog. The fact that most people don't is due mainly to two reasons.
Firstly, most of us have unreal expectations of how much money we will make, and how quickly we will make it.
Secondly, we don't plan well enough. We must make a realistic business plan and stick to it.
I am guilty of a third reason. I do not do enough research, and this is fatal. I am learning this a year later than I should have. If you don't do your research, everything is so much harder. And you will not reach your potential.
You need to add a plugin to your site called All In One SEO. After posting your blog into WordPress, before publishing, scroll down the page until you come to the SEO Section. You will find a box where you can enter the title of your blog, a box to enter your main keywords and also a box for a short description. This will help Google find your site. Lots of programmes will tell you to add the plugin, but not how to take advantage of it. It's taken me months to find. Right, now lets get on:
The most important part of your plan is marketing.
Marketing is something that comes easily to some, but most of us struggle. There are so many different strategies. Which ones should we try, and are they any good. And, how much are the programs going to cost.
So, I'm starting with free traffic.
The main areas we can generate traffic for free are:
Via Direct Links, Via Search Engines.
Getting loads of traffic means:
Creating great content.
Getting links to your content
Ranking well with the search engines
Repeating and repeating this process.
The secret to your success will be the content you create, and how valuable your readers find it.
The way to get started on this merry go round is keyword research. You need to find out what people are looking for. If you don't know this, you are only guessing and it will take you longer to find your profitable niche.
For instance, if you type in: "playing guitar" into Google Keyword research tool, you will see that in November 2009 there were 22,200 searches. Type in "play guitar" and there were 165,000. Which keyword phrase would you use? Its a no brainer.
